  • UTI is short for Urinary Tract Infection. It is an infection of the bladder and the urethra. The bladder is the sac that holds urine. The urethra is the tube that carries urine out of the bladder. A UTI is also called cystitis or a bladder infection. Urinary tract infections are not sexually transmitted.
