A penis becomes circumcised when the foreskin is removed. Foreskin is the loose skin that covers – partially or fully – the head of a penis.

All boys are born with foreskin. Circumcision is a surgical procedure which usually happens shortly after birth. It is often done for religious or cultural reasons.

Some people may get circumcised later in life for health reasons.
