It may take time and more learning about same-sex relationships before you know. There’s no rush to label yourself with a specific sexual orientation, and you actually never have to.
You may already know:
- But you’re pulling together the courage to admit it
- And feel great as you figure it all out, especially if you know some good people to talk to
- And feel horrible and scared – this is more likely if you’re surrounded by people who are homophobic
Be sure to take care of yourself.
While you work it out:
- Consider spending less time with people who are homophobic as you learn more about your own sexuality
- You can read books or Internet sites about same-sex relationships
- You might want to visit a community group for teens who are exploring their own sexuality
- It can help to talk with people you trust – people who won’t freak out and who will respect your privacy
If you want to meet other people who are lesbian, gay or bi, consider joining a local youth group that’s open to all sexual orientations, if there’s one available. If there isn’t, you might find good chat rooms and discussion boards on the web.
